    I’m sorry. But that’s just plain weird. Was this sort of pose common in that era?

    Not that I saw.

    I know historically (in medieval times) kissing was a lot more common, but as far as the late 1950s, I don’t know.

    Sometimes photographers are just looking very hard for a new, interesting pose, and maybe this one seemed like a good idea at the time.

    Portrait photography is difficult; if people who aren’t trained or experienced do it you generally end up with a bunch of people lined up against the wall in a firing-squad arrangement.

    Maybe this was just an attempt at being original and a bit different that didn’t quite work out.

    It kind of looks to me like they’re smelling her ears.
