1935: Speling Is Siriusly Harde

Spelling kept the most students after school in 1935, and not arithmetic or reading.

I used to be a decent speller and even won a school spelling bee as a kid, but after taking German in high school I became unable to distinguish between words that are spelled with ei and ie. And the more English literature I read the harder it becomes to use American spellings for words like grey, pyjamas and theatre.

I’ve never liked aluminium, though.
