1939: Wait, Thanksgiving Is When, Now?!

Thanksgiving was a matter of total confusion from 1939 on to… well, for a good while, thanks to the president confusing the heck out of everyone by proclaiming Thanksgiving on the second-to-last week of November.

There was a good reason, but it was complicated, and eventually FDR had a new “holiday” named after him: Franksgiving.

When I was a kid, I found the scene with the animated turkey moving from date to date on a calendar in Holiday Inn to be perplexing. I later learned about the Franksgiving debacle and everything suddenly made sense.
