Every child responds to being treated as an individual, and having privileges that he feels are his very own, advised this 1940 column, I think fairly wisely.

Maturity levels vary so much from child to child, it would seem impossible to make hard-and-fast rules by age group, but if you don’t, then it does seem egregiously unfair to the kids. Parents, care to weigh in?
