1961: Lock Your Doors!

Worthington Police Chief A. W. Shelquist warned everyone to lock their doors at night in 1961. It still baffles me a bit why anyone wouldn’t, and please note: I’ve lived in rural areas for most of my life. Maybe I’m just paranoid.

“Lock your doors” reminds us of when we felt safe enough to not to. I grew up in Worthington in the 60’s and, except at night or on vacation, we didn’t lock our doors. I don’t even remember knowing where a house key was.

The second story , unfortunately, seems timeless.
